Programs

Our curriculum has been specifically designed and hand-selected to meet the needs of each age group in East Cobb Prep. The research is clear that children learn best by doing. They thrive in hands-on environments, where they are free to explore and discover the many amazing facets of their world. Young children are extremely capable and ready to learn. We are very happy to be able to provide them the opportunity!

Our Infant Program

An infant’s world view is constantly changing, quite literally. As a newborn, he is placed on his back with his only option for a view being straight ahead of him. Then one day he discovers, possibly unexpectedly, that he can roll over. How drastically different his view becomes! Some short time later, he is able to crawl, then walk. As a baby’s perspective changes, so do his perceptions about the world and everything in it. We know how sensitive this time period is in the life of a child, and we are here to ensure that your baby’s perspectives, perceptions, and experiences are as positive as they can possibly be.

Our infant room teachers understand the importance of being responsive to each child’s individual needs. They also know the significance of warm smiles, gentle hugs, and kind words. These things may seem simple enough, but they are so crucial in helping a child feel safe, secure, and special.

Our Active Learning curriculum provides many opportunities for infants to explore, discover, and learn about the world around them, all in an environment that is especially aware of this unique developmental time. Additionally, we are proud to incorporate sign language into our infant programs. Research indicates that sign language provides an excellent bridge to verbal communication. The combination of the spoken word, along with the gesture of the sign, provides the optimum setting for learning. We cherish our infants here at East Cobb Prep, and are honored to participate in such an influential time in their lives.

Our Toddler Program

If you have ever wondered to yourself if there might be a day that you actually get to sit down again, it means just one thing: you have a toddler. To a toddler, the world is their playground, and they are here to enjoy the ride. There is no such thing as a mess too big, an item that might not be edible, or a toy that has to be shared. Ah, to be a toddler again.

Toddlers are fascinated with everything around them because it is this natural curiosity that helps them develop and grow. They learn through all of their senses, so to truly learn about something it must be seen, heard, touched, tasted, and smelled. Our Toddler curriculum, Buttercups, takes this into account and incorporates all of the senses to learn about new things. It aids in developing gross and fine motor skills, as well as provides music, language, art, cognitive, social, and sensory experiences. Toddlers are curious for a very good reason. Our toddler teachers encourage and embrace this trait, and use it to help the children learn in very meaningful ways.

Our Preschool Program

Preschoolers are at that special age where they are extremely inquisitive about everything. Their favorite question is “why?” and they are very serious about wanting the answer. East Cobb Prep’s large, vibrant classrooms are organized into separate learning areas for this very reason. Children can practice, explore, discover, and thoroughly enjoy themselves while rotating through each of them. Our inviting learning centers include activities revolving around blocks, art, sand/water, dramatic play, science, math, literacy, and manipulatives/fine motor.

Our Fireflies curriculum is designed to develop academic skills and promote creative development in preschoolers. Lessons are theme-based and include educational concepts such as alphabet and number recognition, pre-writing skills, beginning phonics, and more, all taught in a way meant to capture the attention of preschoolers (which, as you may already know, is no small feat). We don’t ever want the children to lose their thirst for knowledge, which is the source of their seemingly never-ending questions of “why?” We just want to offer them the tools to realize they have it within themselves to find the answers.

Our Pre-Kindergarten Program

As four-year-olds get closer to their elementary school years, we know how important it is that they are well prepared once they enter Kindergarten. A solid foundation will set the stage for success during their formal school years, as well as increase their self-esteem.

Children at this age still enjoy and learn best with stimulating, hands-on activities. They want to learn, but also want to have fun doing it. Who can blame them? Our Let’s Begin with the Letter People curriculum offers just that. It is a comprehensive, thematically organized preschool program with a strong literacy and skill focus. Children learn about print and phonological awareness, oral language and listening skills, alphabetic knowledge, vocabulary development, math and science, and personal and social development, all in a fun and interactive way. Spanish is a part of the curriculum, also. As our world is becoming smaller through the various media technologies, it is becoming more and more important for children to grow up being fluent in other languages.

We also want to ensure that as they develop their writing skills through the years, the children will be able to express themselves without struggling with the physical writing of their letters. If they struggle with their letters, their ability to express themselves will suffer. Spelling and math will also be affected. Therefore, we incorporate the Handwriting Without Tears program into our pre-kindergarten classes. Handwriting without Tears aims to make legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for all students.

The children are going to face many challenges during their schooling years. Our goal is to prepare them for whatever obstacles may lay ahead of them by building each child’s self-confidence and instilling a love for learning.

Our School-Age Program

School-Agers are at that stage where friends become increasingly important, as does their desire for further independence. We understand your family’s needs might include safe, supervised care for your school-aged child that extends beyond school hours. We furnish after-school care for school-age children that balances independent play with structured and planned activities. We also offer additional enrichment classes, available for those who would like to participate in certain extra-curricular activities but may not be able to because of scheduling constraints.

The teachers of our school-age program know the children still need a nurturing environment, but that their interests and developmental levels are different than the younger children in our facility. They also take advantage of opportunities to enhance the children’s social and leadership skills, self-confidence, conflict resolution strategies, academics, and interests.
